Finding your authentic voice. This is our only true asset (besides tenacity and endurance). As a writer, your genuine expression is the only thing that will set you apart, make you get noticed, and brand your success. Believe it or not, some people have trouble finding their voice. Could this be what is stopping your progress, nay your accomplishment?
People recognize my voice in my work.
Write brutal. Write without shame. Don’t worry about those silly grammar rules you learn in school. And ignore the need to construct a basic sentence. You don’t need any of that bullshit where we’re going.
Writing Exercise:
Write your deepest secret. Dissect it. Take it apart. Where did it take you? Do you feel shame or exhilaration? Explore each of those choices. Make up an end to it—a fiction of what you desire from this secret. You Do Not Need To Share This. It is a gift for your soul.
But later, when the words soften, it will be the perfect start to a novel.
